Mendhicoat Premier League....

Once upon a time when we were Freshers just out of college and new to Pune... Did not have the bikes to enjoy the Nightlife in Pune.... We relied much on cards for entertainment

It was the best of times and it was worst of times when people lived more in their fantasy world and we had to play our cards to bring them back to the reality and the cards had the most probability than any other method....

Initial days were the days which when everyone wanted to take out new games from their arsenal.... Mitul tried to teach us the most complex ones for which the 100 page rulebooks will not be enough.... People were even keen to learn "Bhappo".... may be they even learnt that in their fantasy world.... In the end only one game survived and dominated and that was mendhicoat.....

Mendhicoat or mendicoat where no 10 is called a Mendhi means sheep and you have to collect all the sheeps and create a coat for the opposition.... the Coat of Humiliation..... and then there is Bavanniya Coat which is the total annihilation of the opposition.... We Bagladeshis of this game are proud to disclose that we scored *the-only-bavanniya-coat-scored-till-date* against one of the legends....

Though i've played mendhicoat all my life... it reached a new level when came to pune.... and following are reasons for that....

1) Gooda is to Mendhicoat what Sachin is to cricket... and no one questions that and as per ridwan this is the statement glorifying Sachin....
2) Ridwan is the Dravid who is always in sachin's team and always plays second fiddle.... Probably he is playing this game since he was born..... But still Gooda is natural and therefore Sachin
3) These 2 guys are always in my opposite team.... and generally they are the mighty Australians playing against poor Bangladeshis..... I pity Bangladesh since these legends started playing against me and Raj...
4) No Under age is allowed to watch the game due to the Brutality and Ruthlessness with which Gooda plays the game...
5) When they play individually..... a white wash is ensured..... but we have the best chance of winning when they play together as they play for domination.... even against their own partner....
6) The player coordination is always important.... and the above guys end up either confusing each other or try to dominate the game themselves that they end up in the Coat..... that can be on either sides.....
7) Out of the legends, the maths graduate makes use of all the mathematics.... Permutations, combination, logic and may be multivariable calculus .... He uses an imaginary black-board for all those calculations.... we as opposition hardly care but it surely confuses his partner whereas the IT graduate simply makes use of the extended memory and then uses the priority algorithm which is some sometimes overridden by the natural instincts....
8) And when there is a Coat on the legends.... That is the times we experience the the War of cards.....

The best part is the dialogues.... you'll always have one card drawn out followed by a dialogue "Main yahi card dalunga"... When you play your card the drawn-out card will silently be pocketed....

The game is not just about us 4 players but there are some more players.... My other usual partner is Chheda and the opposition was Mitul with either of the 2 legends.... Parag could be seen on either sides.... Well all the players add their own flavours to the game but none can be compared to the legends.... And these legends were my Idols until VPT (Vinay Prasad Tamta) entered the Arena (That story some other time....)

Above are only a few memories... if i capture all the moments of the glory then the existance of this blog may fall into jeopardy

Still all the game... wins... losses does not matter (Unless i have to pay for the winner's Cad-B) so whenever we find a lack of excitement.... Or the Picnics and parties bring too much excitement in our lives we go back to mendhicoat.... It's one of the glues which still binds us together.....
